So let me see if I have this straight...

President Obama said that he "likes to know what he's talking about" before he speaks, when he was asked why it took him several days to speak out about the AIG bonuses.

Yet this is the same man, along with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid who pushed for the Stimulus bill to be voted on before people had time to read the 1079 pages.

Our President needs to pick up the pace and be as efficient as Congress.

Oil Crisis Rant

The following is a post I made elsewhere about the oil crisis. As typically happens when something like this comes up, both sides were fighting back and forth in bullheaded fashion - name calling, finger pointing, etc. - "I'm right and you are a fool for thinking otherwise."

So I decided to post this. The quoted text was part of the previous message from someone against drilling:

Oh my God. This is the most brilliant thing that has been said. Now if
we can just get both the democrats and the republicans to do it and
stop spreading the blame while looking for one-up-manship.

Clinton turned down drilling while he was president. And the democrats
control congress. Nancy Pelosi said vote in democrats and they would
fix things. That hasn't happened.

The crisis has crept up under the Bush administration, and he has the
power to make some changes. That hasn't happened.

There seems to be two thoughts of how to fix this. One side says drill
in new spots. The other side says take the caps off of leases that
aren't being used.

How about doing both? I compare this to dealing with a starving
family. One one side you have people saying lets plant them crops on
this unused land. The other side is screaming, lets teach them how to
turn these nuts into food. Both solutions will work, so why not do
both instead of fighting over it. The family is still starving while
the fighting goes on.

The same can be done with the oil crisis. If there are two possible
solutions, do them both. Find what is stopping it from happening and
fix it.

Pennsylvania will be deciding the election, regardless of my vote.

It will be decided by a bunch of guys dressed in black and gold.

the outcome of the final home game of the Washington Redskins has been as an indicator of which political party would win the presidential election. If the Redskins won their last home game before Election Day, then the current party in power would win the election. If the Redskins lost, the opposing party would take over the White House.

This has been true with every election since 1936 with the exception of 2004.

So what is the last Redskins home game before the election?

Which means I've got one week left to decide who to vote for in the Pennsylvania Primaries.

Do I choose Clinton, Obama, or one of the other dems who have already left the building.

Or perhaps I write in someone.

Sway me if you'd like. Of the people I've talked to, nobody thinks good of Clinton. And they think Obama is only slightly better.

But why would I want to vote for either of them.

Stupid Cell Phone Companies

I'm looking for some suggestions on how to deal with a little issue we have.

we had cell phone service through cingular/at&t/phone company with an identity crisis (henceforth known as crap). In June, my cell phone started going on the fritz. My reception became limited and my calls were dropping more than they were staying connected. So I took the phone to the store where we bought it. The sales guy there looked it over and concluded that it was indeed broken. But it wasnt under warranty. So there wasnt anything he could do. My options were to buy a new phone, or wait until my plan was up in November. Being poor, I choose the latter option.

So I went 5 months fighting with the phone.

And November came. The magic month. My plan was up. We wnt shopping and T-Mobile had a good deal, so we took it. I had a phone that worked. They took care of everything, or so we thought.

Soon the last bill for crap came. And it was for over $400. Included on it was 2 early termination fees. It turns out that our contracts were up in March. I was eligiable for a new phone in November. The Crap salesperson had failed to convey that when he said my plan was up in November.

We have called support and sent them a letter, but they have yet to waive the fees, even though a part of the miscommunication was because of the ineptitude of their salesperson.

Any suggestions on how I can keep fighting this?

After listening to the Glenn Beck program today, I felt inspired to make some predictions for the 2008 year. His were a lot funnier and more realistic than mine, but what the hell.

1. Gas prices will stay steady or only rise slightly until Labor Day. Then they will sky-rocket for 2 months.
2. The National debt will continue growing out of control.
3. cat_n_de_hat will drink me under the table at some social event.
4. Justin Timberlake will have a #1 song on the billboard charts.
5. daintress will lose at least 15 pounds and look hot as hell.
6. clovecigarettes will have a healthy baby. Britney Spears will also have a baby, but it won't be nearly as cute.
7. A new flavor of Mountain Dew will hit the markets.
8. A team in the Top 6 in salaries will win the World Series. This team will not be the Pittsburgh Pirates or Washington Wild Things
9. fazzumen will use the imaginary word "Chizzy" in a myspace post.
10. Garter Belts and Stockings will become very fashionable.
11. I will get into multiple car accidents on the same day.

At work, they had the good old fashioned christmas tree. And on that tree, were tons of cards with names. So I picked up one.

So now I need to get a gift for a 10 year old girl. Anybody have any ideas that they would like to throw around.

I was chillin gettin ready to read some fine blog posts when I hear tires screetch and a crunching sound, and then the sound of people talking. I think nothing of it for a moment, but then I remember where I'm at. While possible, it would take some mad skills to have an accident in front of my place. Its a straight stretch of road with the only turn being my driveway. So I go out and look.

One car has some nice damage to the drivers front. But the other car is fine. And then my eyes catch the sight of a head popping up.

The guy hit the deer.

I grab my shoes and go looking for instruments of destruction, wishing I had a gun at that moment.

I go back out with the only things I could find - an exacto knife and a hammer and walk to the beast. It raises its head again. It had taken a good hit, but was amazingly still alive. Its one back leg was definitely broken (they aren't meant to bend like that), and the other is hurt. But this sucker won't be around for long.

So I try to decide what is the best way to put it out of its misery (if at all). Crack it in the head with the hammer? Slit its throat? I continue to wish I had a gun at that moment. Quick and painless.

The deer sensing trouble attempts to move, but rolls closer to the road. It still has the sense to try to flee danger, but manages to put itself in more danger. So i walk back around it and prod it with the hammer trying to get it to move off the road. It musters enough energy and strength to get up on its three able legs and make three hops into the brush far off the road. I can see it, but not being dressed for fighting through brush and jaggers, i just let it be to die in peace. I walk back and talk to the driver and can hear the deer trying to fight its way to the afterlife of the deer.

Darn strikes.

My Wonderful weekend

This past weekend I got to do something I haven't done in a very long time - go on a trip w/ my Dad & Brother.

We went to Delaware to check out the Nascar races.

The trip started early Friday morning when we fit everything we could into my brothers Subaru, and hit the road.

We got to the campground and set up our tent. Then went and got some food & ice. Dinner was fire roasted brauts and beers. Some good conversation, and then sleeping on the hard earth.

Saturday we got up early and found our way to Dover International Speedway. We watched the Cup cars practice and then qualifying for the Busch race. Greg Biffle got the pole, so I was pumped. Morgan Shepard qualified 31st or something.

Right after qualifying ended, a storm blew in from the ocean, pounding us and the track with rain. We found some cover and waited the quick storm out. After it stopped, my brother and I went to check out the displays while waiting for the track to be dried. We found some good deals, and by the time we got back, they were halfway through the cup practice, followed by the Busch race. Denny Hamlin won. Jamie McMurray wrecked. And Tony Raines threw his expensive helmet. The race was a crash fest. After the race, we checked out a few more booths, then headed back to our earthly beds.

Sunday we woke up and tore down camp. Then back to the track for the cup race. It was another crash fest. But our view of it was great. I just wish I could have seen Kyle Petty bitchslap Denny Hamlin. Carl Edwards cheated and won. But he did his backflip to make everyone happy. Greg came in second, which made me happy.

One last look at the booths, and then the long trip home. I found my pillow after 2am sunday night/Monday morning.

I can't wait to do it again.
